SAFETY ALERT: Recall Notice For Sherwood Regulators

This is an important SCUBA safety notice regarding Sherwood Regulators.

WASHINGTON, April 30 - The U.S. safety agency announced the recall on Tuesday of about 14,000 defective diving regulators made by Irvine, California-based company Sherwood SCUBA LLC.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission said the second stage orifices on the regulators could become cracked, bent or broken and result in divers not being able to breathe air while under water.

The company had received seven reports of broken second stage orifices, with two of them breaking during dives. No injuries were reported, the commission said.

The regulators, which sold for about $580 each from January 1998 through November 2000:

The recall includes Maximus regulators with:

-- Model number SRB5600, serial number range K600001 through K611834.

-- Model number SRB5600D2, serial number range DK60000 through DK62000.

-- Model number SRB5600CE, serial number range EK60001 through EK62000.
